Charice Sings With David Foster & Friends

"I'm a Foster child!", 17-year-old Charice Pempengco declared during last night's David Foster & Friends concert at the WaMu Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden. After all, David Foster - the Hitman - has been her mentor ever since Oprah Winfrey introduced her to him. When David talks about Charice, he confidently talks about her singing talent and where it's going to lead her to - just like a Celine Dion he helped achieve musical success many years ago. Things have indeed gone up for this little girl and just a year ago, Charice sang in Celine's concert right at the Madison Square Garden. What she lack in height, she did compensate it with a soaring voice.

Charice was one of the several performers in David Foster's show but apparently a lot of Pinoys were in the audience because of her. As if to heighten our suspense, Charice was the last to perform after Philip Bailey (of Earth Wind & Fire), Deborah Coxx, Peter Cetera, the Canadian Tenors and the American Idols alumni Ruben Studdard and Michael Johns. Waiting for Charice was so worth it as she gave a truly great performance, opening with The Power of Love followed by her first single A Note To God. She did a Bodyguard medley I Have Nothing and I Will Always Love You. But it was her heartfelt rendition of God Bless America that got people in the audience - white, black and brown - standing on their feet.

For Pinoys who came to see the show, it was truly a proud moment. For Charice, I wish her to stay humble and sing more songs that will help define her own identity.

  1. I wondered if the Nomad Pinoy would go to that concert...

I've been a fan of Charice for 3 years, after I first saw her on YT.

This girl is mesmerizing, she definitely has IT.

Star power, "Cha"risma, an amazing voice and a humble personality. Her future is supernova bright.

While she wasn't doing so well in the Philippines (being ignored for other "lesser" talents), she is now soaring high in the US and worldwide and back home in the Philippines too.

Her new CD is supposed to be released early next year.

    Mabuhay Charice!

  3. "WOW!" Although I have seen a couple of times singing with David Foster and his group, I am still wowed by her singing. More power to her. Those who ignored her back home must be banging their heads on brick walls.

  4. man, the wonderful thing about ur blogs is your original shots so vivid, complementing your well-written choice of words. Idol!

charice never fail to suprise/astonish us with her global accomplishments, albeit, though, the pinoy audience prefer more of sarah and regine type..

i never knew that successful girl was once once our neighbor. :)

  7. It's good to know that even though she underwent a serious makeover (from being a teen to almost a woman), her voice still didn't falter. Magaling talaga ang Pinoy. No doubt.
