Manhattan was filled with rainbow colors today as the annual NYC Gay Pride March went underway along the length of Fifth Avenue from 52nd Street all the way down to Christopher Street in the West Village. It's probably the longest parade route in New York but what a spectacle it is and what a culmination of weeklong events for the LGBT community. 40 long years since the Stonewall riots, Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and the Transgender have made their many causes heard - and yet the struggle for the gay rights movement continues today. In the midst of blaring music (mostly Michael Jackson dance hits), colorful costumes and equally colorful participants, the parade that began at 12 noon and lasted till evening was viewed by a very enthusiastic crowd. Here are some of the photos I took in front of the New York Public Library:

ReplyDeletethe colors are so amazing. i still can't get the feel of such parades though. have nothing against them but it's simply voyeurism to me.
ReplyDeleteWhen did you have your Pride Fest parade? In Toronto, it was June 28th. Did we have it at the same time?
ReplyDeletei'd love to watch the gay pride parade in NYC too...couldn't get the timing right.

Hi Bing,
I know these parades may not be for everyone but I do respect your opinion.

Both parades were actually on the same date 6/28! Sister cities, isn't it?
